Hair of the Dog is one of the Granddaddies of the Portland beer scene. And yet, despite being a staple beer in Portland, they only recently opened a tasting room across the Willamette river from downtown.
The new tasting room is in a beautiful and airy warehouse, complete with garage doors and picnic tables. I was there on a Wednesday afternoon and found a good crowd of people imbibing their complex brews. They offer 4 oz sampler sizes on everything (which is clutch considering most of their beers are around 10%). Their barrel aged program, titled "From the Wood", is outstanding. We sampled the Fred from the Wood, which was easily one of the best beers we had in PDX.
These dudes keep it real and I hope to someday return with less time constraints. For sure an A+ spot.
