Yards

My brother and I got together recently and decided to take a tour of the brewing sites of Philadelphia.

The biggest brewery in the city (i think) and the one we were both most excited to visit, is Yards Brewing, located about a mile North of Center City near the Delaware river.

Yards gives tours during the early afternoon hours on Saturday and we arrived in time to have a beer and jump into the 2pm tour, which was excellent. Funny tour guide, informative and fair size crowd of festive beer drinkers. Apparently, the are really proud of how "green" their brewery is as well, mentioning several times that they are the most Eco-friendly brewery in PA.

Not only is the tour well worth the time, the tasting area/bar was a pretty cool place to hang. I tried their Love Stout, an Oyster Stout only available at the brewery, and sampled the IPA and Ben Franklin Spruce Ale (Yards is famous for their Ales of the Revolution :http://www.yardsbrewing.com/ales_general-washingtons-tavern-porter.asp)

Also, The Bartenders did get a bit overloaded as the tour crowds surged in or out... But we had a blast and certainly be up for a return trip.
