If you love history, like myself, and are a fan of beer, then there is no better place to visit than the stellar Yuengling brewery in Pottsville, PA. Established in 1829, it is the oldest operating brewery in the country and when you simply order a "lager" in PA, what you get in return in the tasty Yuengling Lager.
Set high up on a hill in the small town of Pottsville, the brewery would be easy to miss if you weren't looking for it. Two tours are given pretty much everyday at 10 am and 1:30, but check their website for updates and specifics.
The tour is outstanding. From the wall murals depicting how the brewery was run in the old days, to the Stain glass ceilings, to the jaw-dropping caverns below where the fresh water came from and beer kept to ferment, the sites and history bombard you. Not only is this the birth place of that delicious beer you love, but it's an actual historic site, worthy of anyone's appreciation and time.
