This was a while back, but wanted to share these pics and tell the tale of Sam Adams, Brewer-Patriot.
The Sam Adams brewery in Boston is essentially a research lab with a gift shop. 99% of Sam Adams beer is contract brewed off site, which helps eliminate the high cost of owning and operating a brewery (see Pittsburgh brewing). But that doesn't mean the visit and tour are not worth the time. It's actually one of the best brewery tours I've been on.
The tour guides are well educated on the brewing process and do a great job of telling the history of Sam Adams (Koch is one smart guy). Very cool old memorabilia on display that show how the brewery has evolved and continued to expand it's offering.
Lastly, once the tour is over, they sit you down for 3/4 good sized samples and you get to keep the glass. I love it when breweries do that. They didn't make any money off the tour but they reward you for taking the time to visit. A top notch move.
